A media veteran with over 10 years experience in journalism, Darcel Rockett holds an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University and a B.A. in political science from the University of Chicago . As an undergraduate, she wrote articles for the Chicago Maroon, covered cultural affairs for WHPK-FM and penned pieces for periodicals in Myrtle Beach , S.C. and Chicago before garnering a Pulliam Fellowship with The Arizona Republic. While at graduate school, she broadened her journalistic scope under the mentorship of Janice Simpson, assistant managing editor of Time Magazine, and Farai Chideya, author of "The Color of Our Future."

Since then, she has traveled the world and crossed borders with her recorder. She has written for an alternative weekly in Houston , for The Associated Press in Chicago and the U.S. Virgin Islands and Hollinger International's Star Newspaper. She’s also been a TV critic, an assistant editor for Go Magazine (AirTran Airways' in-flight publication), a managing editor of an online movie magazine, and editor at a content syndicate.

She has covered the Democratic National Convention, the Toronto Film Festival, pop culture, music, relationships, and a variety of topics in between. As a journalist, her articles have appeared in TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly, Budget Travel, and The Chicago Tribune Magazine and on cbs2chicago.com and Fox News Online, while her columns have been lauded in Yahoo! Internet Life and the Houston Chronicle.
